Federal State of Emergency to Relax Telehealth Laws

Federal State of Emergency to Relax Telehealth Laws

On Friday March 13th, President Donald Trump stated he plans to sign an $8.3 billion emergency funding measure when it reaches his desk to help stem the ongoing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak. There are many relief options provide in this bill and one option includes that the “U.S Secretary of Health and Human Services to waive the Medicare restrictions on providing telehealth services to seniors during this public health emergency”.[i]

This is good news for those of us who provide telehealth services. This bill does not change any of the current restrictions outside of specific Medicare telehealth services to seniors during this public health emergency, but Medicare tends to be the gold standard for change. Hopefully, this encouraging step will be a catalyst to remove or relax some the current public-sector telehealth restrictions during and after this crisis.

We will keep you posted on any updates that might assist you in providing your telehealth services to your clients.
