How Did We Get Started?

The concept for Virtual Therapy Connect was born over two years ago when Dr. Martha Ireland decided to relocate her established private psychotherapy practice of more than 20 years to another state in order to be closer to her family.  Her son-in law who works in IT security and her daughter Jennifer Jones suggested that together they develop a video conferencing system to allow her to work with her clients from a distance.  It did not take much research to figure out that the solution they were seeking did not already exist in a way that was truly HIPAA compliant.  It also quickly became apparent that whatever solution was created to support her clients from a distance, that same technology could also assist other clinicians in making connections with their clients.  A vision was created for the development of an IT portal that would provide the highest standard in ethical practice and online security while supporting video teleconferencing, email, and other emerging technologies to facilitate quality care. That is how Virtual Therapy Connect began!

As part of the business development process, Dr. Ireland and her daughter began connecting with leaders in the IT industry and with lawyers that specialize in HIPAA and HITECH compliance. Through these connections, there were several individuals that shared the same passion for the social mission of Virtual Therapy Connect, and the desire to bring to reality the social benefits of this business concept. These individuals comprise the team that is now Virtual Therapy Connect!
